Sustainability

Travel has an impact. This is how I make it smaller and fairer.

I sell long-haul trips, and long-haul trips have a footprint. I do not deny that. What I can do is choose how you travel: privately and small, with people on the ground, with respect for animals and nature, and honest about the flight. Below you read what that means in practice.

Local money stays local

I work with local guides, guesthouses and family businesses, and pay them a fair price. Where possible I choose locally owned accommodation, so that a bigger share of your trip price stays in the country itself.

Private and small-scale

You travel with your own party, not in a full coach. That keeps the impact on villages, nature and heritage sites smaller, and makes encounters more genuine. You eat where you like, often with people from the neighbourhood.

Animal welfare

No elephant rides, no wild animal shows and no visits to attractions with captive animals kept for entertainment. Safaris are run by licensed guides who keep a respectful distance.

Honest about flying

A long-haul trip means flying, which has a large climate impact. I list the flight separately per trip, recommend direct flights and prefer one longer trip over several short ones. On the ground we go by train or boat where that is possible.

I do not hold a sustainability label yet. This page describes what I do and aim to do; I will report on progress later.
