This is the route I travelled myself through Bali and Komodo, and I arrange it in full for you as a 16-day private trip. You start slowly on the west coast, with the sea temple of Tanah Lot at sunset. Then your own driver takes you inland: the royal temple of Taman Ayun, the UNESCO rice terraces of Jatiluwih, the lakes and waterfalls around Munduk and the waterfalls of the north.
Highlights
- The sea temple of Tanah Lot and Batu Bolong at sunset
- The royal temple of Taman Ayun and the mountain temple of Batukaru
- Walking through the UNESCO rice terraces of Jatiluwih
- Ulun Danu Beratan on its lake, the waterfalls and the cool mountains around Munduk
- Sunrise on the summit of Mount Batur
- Besakih, the mother temple on the slopes of Mount Agung, and the rice fields of Sidemen
- Ubud: the Campuhan ridge, the Monkey Forest, Tirta Empul, Gunung Kawi and Goa Gajah
- The view over the bays of Padar and Komodo dragons in the wild
- The harbour of Labuan Bajo at sunset and a day by the pool above the bay

Bali & Komodo, tailored to you, free of charge
Tell me when you would like to travel and with how many. Within 48 hours I send you a personal route sketch: days, pace and hotels adapted to you. No obligation, nothing to pay.
What I will arrange for you after launch
- Pickup at the arrival airport and the transfer on your last day; the details are in the brochure.
- All hotels and guesthouses, booked in advance at the level you choose: Budget, Comfort or Premium.
- Transport on the ground with a private driver and private transfers; domestic flights or trains where that makes sense.
- The activities and entrance fees on the route. Prefer a guide? I can add a local guide to any activity.
- Breakfast, and the meals at remote places with no alternative (such as a safari lodge, desert camp or yurt camp). For the other meals I give you my restaurant recommendations, but you choose completely freely where you eat.
- A personal intake, at your home or by video call.
- A WhatsApp line, before and during your trip, and my personal number, always at hand.
- A call-back after your trip.
- Your international flight from Brussels: after launch I'm happy to book it for you, or you book it yourself. Prices on the site exclude the flight.
When to travel
Your dates are completely free: there are no fixed departure dates, you leave on the day that suits you. My recommended route takes 16 days. Shorter or longer is possible too; I adapt the route.
This is advice, not a rule. If you want to travel in another month, I tell you honestly what to expect (rain, heat, crowds) and adapt the route.
Price by level and transport
You choose the level of your hotels and how you get around. Same route, same care; only the hotels and the transport differ.
Estimated prices per person, based on 2 travellers, incl. domestic flights, excl. international flight. The price per person is calculated per party size (rooms and transport shared). E.g. Comfort, private driver: solo € 4,040, two € 2,310, three € 2,040, four € 2,070 pp. Pick the number of travellers in the price box.
If you are interested, I am happy to send you the hotel guide with all the addresses.
More about self-drive and the private driver on this route
Self-drive (not available on this route)
We do not offer self-drive on Bali. Traffic drives on the left, is busy and unpredictable with thousands of scooters, the mountain roads to Jatiluwih, Munduk and Kintamani are narrow and steep, and in an accident the foreign driver is usually held liable. A car with driver costs barely more than a rental car, and your driver knows the back roads, the ceremonies and the best warungs. On Flores and in Komodo National Park self-drive is not an option either: there you travel with private transfers and a private boat with crew.
Private driver
On Bali you have one regular English-speaking driver with a comfortable air-conditioned car, from the airport on arrival until the flight to Flores on day 13. Fuel, parking and tolls are included. He is available for up to about 10 hours a day: you stop wherever you like, and on quiet days you simply agree what you want to do. He is a driver, not a guide. Between Bali and Labuan Bajo (Flores) you fly; there private transfers and a private speedboat with crew take care of the rest, and on day 16 you fly back to Denpasar for your flight home.
Flight & price
After launch I'm happy to book your flight for you, or you book it yourself. The prices on this page include domestic flights and exclude the international flight.
International return flight to Bali not included: allow about € 700–1,600 p.p. depending on the month (July and August are the most expensive: approx. € 1,450–1,600). I am happy to book the flight for you, or you book it yourself.
Estimated price per person based on 2 travellers, incl. domestic flights, excl. international flight; higher in high season, lower in low season. Not an offer: nothing is being sold yet.
Travelling responsibly
We choose small, locally run accommodation in Kedungu, Jatiluwih, Munduk, Sidemen and Labuan Bajo, work with local drivers, mountain guides and a local boat crew so income stays in the community, and avoid the busiest places at the busiest times (Tanah Lot and Ulun Danu Beratan early or late in the day). In Komodo National Park we follow the daily quotas and park rules: always with a ranger, take nothing and leave nothing, no standing on coral, no anchoring on the reef. Low-plastic travel with water refills in the car and on the boat; respect for temple dress and ceremonies. The Bali tourist levy supports culture and environment projects on the island.
